The few who Okita considers closest to him. These are the people he follows, trusts, and will lay down his life for. They are the few who he feels a connection with that goes beyond simple camaraderie and can develop into something more.
Those who Okita trusts, but not with everything. He may tell them things, but he won't open his heart to them completely for one reason or another. He will still die to protect them, but there is still a barrier he maintains between himself and this person.
Close friends and allies. These people he considers good friends, but not necessarily part of his hardcore group. He will fight to protect them, but he won't necessarily go out of his way to seek revenge for wrongs committed against them as he would with the others.
Casual acquaintances and contacts: those he keeps in contact with, but doesn't necessarily trust or tell his true name to. These people are those he will speak to when he has a free hour and he does enjoy their company, but it's unlikely he will team with them come night or keep track of their movements as he does with others.
It's not that he likes or dislikes these people, it's more that they have information he needs and that is the only real reason he keeps in contact with them. They may be fun in their own right, but they are like the townspeople in Mibu - he thinks it's best not to get too close to them, but also not too far. They have a usefulness that he can't ignore.
Those he dislikes, but doesn't necessarily hate (although they may hate him). For some reason or another he finds their company distasteful and will try to avoid sitting with them or interacting. They may be useful in other ways and so he may still work with them, but given a choice, he'd rather not.
His enemies. He's likely to shank you if he gets a chance so it'd be a good idea to stay away from him. If someone has gone this far, it is likely because of some longstanding grudge or because of events at the Institute. He distrusts these people more than anyone and if given a shot would gladly take them out of the world.

He met Homura at the Institute on his first day, and now Homura serves as his current commander in the History Club. He is intrigued by Homura's difference and his power, but also by the subdued innocence of his love for Rinrei and how it comes through in affection for anything that reminds him of her. During Hijikata's absense, Okita focused singularly on Homura for direction and still relies heavily on him for guidance. When Hijikata arrived and departed twice, it was Homura who gave Okita a path to walk on again and for that he is extremely grateful. He feels a strange sort of kinship with Homura and besides Hijikata, the demi-god is the one Okita is closest with having known him the longest at the Institute. Following the events of NS40, Okita is going to be trying to stick closer to Homura, so he knows he's not to blame for what happened the night of his pseudo-SC.

There is, however, a strain in their relationship - Okita knows of Homura's feelings for him and doesn't think he can return them, making things a bit awkward whenever they're alone. What's worse is that Homura knows about Okita's disease and sometimes Okita gets the feeling that he is one of the reasons Homura is so desperate to win. He isn't entirely comfortable with that thought since he doesn't like the idea that anyone would care about him so much when Okita knows all too well that he won't survive the Institute. He doesn't wish to cause Homura anymore pain since he oonce lost Rinrei and so he refuses to acknowledge the way Homura feels for him.

The Kansai area detective reminds Okita of Tetsu in many ways, but originally they met just to spar and have fun. Okita recognized the boy's talent (his name alone garnered attention as a descendant of the legendary Hattori Hanzo) and looks to keep him near for that, but also just because he enjoys his company. The fact that Heiji is constantly thinking, always working things out and reading into people's actions is appealing to the swordsman. It also helps that Heiji knows about the future and Okita is still trying to uncover details that will help him prevent the demise of the Shinsengumi. Okita feels particularly protective of Heiji, and because of that he keeps him at a certain distance. He doesn't want Heiji to realize that he has contracted his disease again because he doesn't wish for the boy to suffer. He also worries for the boy's mental state, knowing that the strain of the Institute will wear on someone who has never had to kill to save a life.

As of NS48, Okita feels particularly keenly toward Heiji because the boy was there when Ayumu died and because he was the one she died protecting. He can't imagine how terrible it must be for him, and he feels extremely bad that he attacked Sai in front of Heiji, causing him to snap a bit.

Another god from Homura's world and the once defacto leader of the History Club when Homura lost his memories. Okita has a great deal of respect for Kenren and likes him quite a lot, but he has a more hands-off approach to leading that reminds him of a mixture of Yamanami and Hijikata, which unnerves him a little. The more they've spoken, however, the more Okita finds he likes Kenren. The god has little respect for authority unless said authority proves itself, but he's keenly connected to his friends. He's Homura's right hand man as well, which places him very highly in Okita's eyes. Although a bit too laid back for Okita's tastes, he has seen Kenren prove himself in battle and in taking care of Homura when the demi-god doesn't do it for himself, so Okita likes him quite a bit. As the other main 'captain' in the History Club, Okita respects him quite a bit, although sometimes he wonders about the nature of his and Homura's relationship.

Guy has recently moved up to this level because Okita deems him a friend and someone he cares about, but he still can't afford to be entirely honest with him since they live together. He has to keep his disease under wraps near him, but otherwise he enjoys talking with Guy and hopes they can remain good friends. He is also careful to remember Guy's problem with women, thanks to their first meeting where Guy mistook him for one and freaked out. Okita wants to know why, but he's smart enough not to ask. Together they have a very good roommate relationship, although sometimes Okita wonders if Guy thinks he's a little crazy for all the strange things he does like not eating and carving poetry into his desk.

At one point in time, Guy was lost to the basement and died - killed by the boy Sync. Okita didn't realize until Guy was gone how much the man's presence meant to him, and he spent one night alone, somewhat paralyzed by the pain of it. When Guy returned the next day, he was shocked, but relieved that the death was impermanent. He hopes that they can get to know each other better now, since they have this second chance. He once promised Guy a sword and he has since made it his priority to ensure he gets it so that Guy is never lost again. With the loss of the alchemist, Okita has determined that if a sword is not procured soon, he will take it upon himself to find Guy a sword - even if it means facing the upstairs room alone.

Heiji's friend and also a specific point of interest for Okita. While Kaito and Heiji both dislike Homura, Okita feels a bit of paternal instinct for both boys. Kaito dislikes killing and for that he reminds him a little of Kenshin, but Kaito is also hiding his identity from Heiji and Shinichi and so Okita wants to help him in order to maintain harmony within the group. Originally, he took Kaito in as a favor to Heiji, but now he is doing it for personal reasons. Unlike the others, Kaito seems a bit more mature, if only because he has had to stand on his own for so long. He's well aware of the group dynamic and Okita worries that it puts a strain on him.

Recently, Okita was faced with the problem that Kaito's cover might have been blown to Shinichi and Heiji. It seemed like Shinichi was fairly certain Kaito was Kid, a famous thief from home, but since then Okita hasn't heard anything. It would appear that Kaito has distanced himself from the group, however, and Okita wonders what has been happening with him lately.

Okita's first impression of Taura was: big. She is a tall woman, almost taller than Harada Sanosuke and possessing a curvy frame despite her size. When they first met it was on a Special Counseling Prep Room raid and they had little time to talk. He ended up passing out from the noxious fumes, but he'd seen Taura pull Ayumu from the room, so he feels he owes her a small debt of gratitude. A few days later, she ended up coming to see him at breakfast and they were finally able to have a small chat, where Okita realized just how tall Taura was and finally learned her name. He promised and was able to get her the nekote from the raid because she likes to work with her hands and it seems like a good fit. Taura is from the future and from a place called Jackson's Whole. Her world is mostly devoid of nature. She is a soldier and she does well with taking and following his orders which he likes very much. She seems to be a good fit for the History Club and is even speaking of bringing in others. Okita likes her although they don't know much about each other yet.

Guy first mentioned a friend who he often spoke to and ventured out with, piquing Okita's interest. He never gave a name, but Okita was always glad that Guy had someone he could trust and speak with so openly. Then, one day, Okita ran into a friendly blond who introduced himself as Claude. Since they realized they had a mutual friend, he and Claude struck up a casual friendship. Okita showed Claude how to make paper cranes and they had a rather pleasant conversation in the Arts and Crafts room. Okita was glad to meet Guy's friend, especially since his roommate always spoke so favorably of him.

The next time they met though was for Claude to deliver the news of Guy's death. Unable to go and pay respects to his friend himself, Okita wrote a letter and a poem inside a paper crane and entrusted Claude with its delivery. He shared in Claude's grief, his anger, and his thirst for revenge - promising to help him destroy Sync if he should ever want the help. Claude has Okita's gratitude for telling him of Sync, delivering the message and continuing to be such a good and loyal friend to Guy. Since Guy has returned, Okita is unsure how the act of revenge will happen, especially since it seems Guy is in casual contact with Sync again, but Okita hopes to speak to Claude someday again to find out what his take is.

He is just a boy, or so Okita initially thought. In reality he is Homura's predecessor as the Toushin Taishi, the god of war for Heaven. Okita doesn't know much about the boy's background, but he sympathizes with him - a child dragged into war, forced to kill without ever getting the chance to be young and innocent. Like Homura, Okita wants to give Nataku a chance to live a free life now that he's away from Heaven, but he also recognizes that the boy's skill is invaluable, as is his effect on both Homura and Kenren. For that reason, he's a little more willing to use Nataku as a tool of war unlike the others.

Nataku's personality is also appealing because he's young, inquisitive and more than willing to pull a few pranks on the more serious members of the History Club and the Institute at large. Okita likes him because of this and because they once managed to dump a tube of glitter on Homura together. He hopes they can play again someday, either during the day or at night. A part of Okita hopes that it’s during the day, so he can see more of Nataku’s playful side and less of his war god side. He has a feeling Homura would prefer that as well.

The boy sought weapons training on the bulletin board and Okita responded. Since he's used to teaching, Okita saw it as an opportunity to ensure his skills hadn't diminished and to one-up Kenshin, which wasn’t exactly the most mature of choices, but there you go. Junpei knows about Okita's identity and his legendary status, which is why he wanted lessons in the first place and Okita saw Junpei as an opportunity to possibly learn more about his future as well.

Okita thinks he has the skill, but he must work on his control. Junpei relies too much on brute strength alone to win a fight, which robs him of his finesse and opens him to greater injury. Okita has trained Junpei twice - once during the day when he taught Junpei a balance exercise to teach him to read his enemies' moves rather than run headlong into blind battle. He also held one training session at night, which Homura attended, where he momentarily lost control himself and almost severely injured his student. Junpei didn't seem too afraid of him, though, and so Okita looks forward to their next training session. He wants to teach him more of the Tennen Rishin style and how to better fight in close quarters. He currently has Junpei on a nightly exercise where he has to build up the strength and control of his swings by repetitions before he heads out every night.

Peter Petrelli has powers which makes him of interest to the History Club, but the first time Okita met the boy was in the showers, looking rather uncomfortable. After some slight teasing about Peter’s shyness, he ended up having rather pleasant conversation with the young man and, in the process, discovered that everyone was speaking different languages, but hearing only their native tongue. Okita liked Peter, but didn't think much of him until Homura started taking an interest in him. Okita continues to use the name 'Soujirou' around Peter, but is now watching him a little closer to monitor the decisions he makes regarding the hostile patient known as Sylar. If possible, Okita would like to recruit Peter into the History Club due to his medical knowledge as well, but so far any efforts in that area have been for naught.

Okita first met Yuffie when he attacked Sanosuke and Kenshin the night that Hijikata disappeared (NS34) – although I use the word ‘met’ lightly. Okita noticed her using magic to cure Sanosuke and beyond that paid her no attention since he was rather distracted with trying to kill Kenshin. This left more than just a bit of a sour taste in Yuffie’s mouth about Okita and little to no impression about her on Okita himself.

However, soon after he met her during the day and ended up playing with her on the bulletin. Since then, he thinks she is an interesting person and worth further interactions. However, since she is Kenshin's ally and not his, he is wary of her and of what her intentions really are with their casual acquaintance. Since speaking with her on the bulletin and receiving medical treatment at her hands (NS 42), his opinion of her has changed for the better. He finds her a good playmate, easy to get along with, funny and skilled. She helped them all survive during the Zombie Event in Doyleton and he got a closer look at her talents, which again raised his opinion of her. Despite all that, however, he does not trust her one hundred percent because she is close with Suzaku, Lelouch and Himura, and at one time was Ayumu’s roommate. While her usefulness and her personality often outweigh the dangers of knowing her, Okita isn’t going to be trusting her anytime soon with anything important and certainly not with any personal information about him.

As an aside, he has a nickname for her based on their first meeting: Bubbles.

Okita has yet to really talk to Kudou alone for any length of time, but since he is Heiji's friend and another 'puppy' for him to take care of, that automatically raises him to the inner ranks. However, because of his relationship with the Kaito Kid, Okita wishes to keep him from Kuroba as much as possible. That task is proving more and more difficult and recent events have made that almost impossible. Otherwise, Okita trained Kudou and Heiji one night together since they requested some help in that field. Unlike Heiji, Kudou primarily learns through mimicry rather than straight drills, so Okita has to adjust his training style around him. He hopes to train with him again, in order to see what else the boy can do, but since Kudou is Heiji's greatest rival (despite friendly terms), that makes things a little difficult.

Recently, Okita found out that Kudou left Heiji on his own (allowed him to go into a room where he was attacked without providing backup) and that has significantly lowered the detective in Okita's eyes. If he cannot count on Kudou not to leave Heiji hanging whenever a case comes up, then he wonders if he can trust him at all. Also, as a result of this, Kuroba’s connection with the Kaito Kid has been called into question, making Shinichi a possible danger to the stability of the group.

A new and most valuable addition to the History Club, Yamda Hanatarou is a healer. Okita finds Hanatarou's nervous nature cute, kind of like a spastic puppy. As a healer, he is invaluable, but as a person, he's good for a tease and reminds Okita a great deal of Hotaru in his clumsiness and his genuinely good heart. Okita realizes that being nice to Hanatarou is probably the best way to keep him around, and so will be going out of his way a little to ensure that the healer stays and feels that he is being put to good use. For how often Okita and the others in the History Club get hurt, he hopes they don’t exhaust the poor kid though. He’s also heard talk about Hanatarou helping the Clinic or starting up his own group, which Okita thinks is a good idea. The only problem Okita has with healing is he’s afraid Hana or one of the others might uncover his disease.

Additional notes: Hanatarou taught Okita about the juice boxes and straws, which led to Okita shooting a straw paper wrapper at Homura during DS 42.

A strange, foreign man of England that Okita met during Arthur's first day at the Institute. He attempted to explain the place to him, but was left with the impression that Arthur didn't really believe him. Judging from his build and his hands, he was a fighter or soldier - and he seems to know a great deal about war and weaponry like guns, swords, bows, and the like. He has shown interest in the History Club due to his own background in combat. He's also admitted to being a very important person in his country, although Okita doesn't know him since Arthur is from the modern era and Arthur wasn’t really admitting anything. It seems like almost all the men in Okita's life are smokers and hopelessly addicted to tobacco. Badou is no exception, but in this case, it makes for a very lucrative business deal. If Okita can supply Badou with cigarettes (strange white tobacco sticks as far as Okita is concerned), then Badou will pay him back with candy. Besides that, Badou helped Okita cheer up a bit after having a particularly bad night. They drew together on Okita's hand, a scene of them watching fireworks on a rooftop, which eventually devolved into a picture of Kenshin being dead, but the fact remains that Badou tried to cheer him up and Okita is very grateful for that. He likes the man even if they rarely talk nowadays. He does keep tabs on him though, noting his close relationship with the boy Artemis Fowl and with the people from his world who have started to arrive. he man of Iga. Okita met him on the bulletin when he was looking for others of his village, surprising the swordsman a great deal. The Iga village was once renowned as the source of the ninja that worked for the Tokugawa shogunate until recent times when a political shift in power saw them replaced by the men of the Kii Province. Okita recognizes that having a man of Iga on their side would be an astounding advantage, and he has just recently convinced the man to contact Homura for a position. The man is a leader, not a follower, which makes him reluctant to join rank, but the frustrations of the Institute have finally brought him to the History Club.

Okita gets the feeling that Yakushijin is hiding something, but he can’t figure out what. He was able to procure an overview of what sort of abilities Yakushijin has as an Iga ninja during a trip to Doyleton (DS 49), but he had to give up veiled information about what sort of things the History Club had accomplished. Homura wanted to know about Fai and thus asked for Okita's opinion on him. Okita has since lost sight of Fai, but he is still curious to know exactly what it is the man is hiding. As someone who also hides so much, Okita could tell that Fai had a secret (or secrets) that he didn't want to reveal to anyone, especially to Homura and Okita (who was technically a stranger). That said, Fai was enlisted to do a few tasks for the History Club, so Okita assumes the matter is settled and is willing to leave well enough alone. He arose at a time when the information network had fallen due to Mello's first disappearance. His sudden insistence on categorizing things and maintaining a somewhat vague presence in the background piqued Okita's curiosity, especially since he was setting himself up into a leadership position. There is something going on with him - him and his friends - but Okita hasn't been able to figure it out yet. He has the ability to induce truth in others, making Okita reluctant to meet with him in case he ever tries that ability with him. Instead, he keeps doodling anonymously on any and all posts made by the boy, just to test the waters and see what he's up to and what his mental state is like. So far, he has yet to be caught at this and Lelouch seems to have gotten used to Okita’s periodic vandalism.

At Homura's request, he sent Ayumu after him to try to uncover something, but the mission revealed nothing of any great importance that he could find. As of now, the History Club is taking a much more hands-on approach to watching Lelouch and his doings, but that doesn't mean they aren't following him in the shadows, too. His position at the head of the information network, GAMBIT, is something Okita is going to be watching closely - especially since his endeavors led a few people from the History Club itself in the beginning. Lelouch’s close connections with Yuffie are especially troublesome since Yuffie was once Ayumu’s roommate, and she is still Kenshin’s ally. Lately, Okita hasn’t seen as much from Lelouch beyond someone writing up questions under his name and summarily annoying the teen. Okita is still wary of what Lelouch is doing, but so far it seems to have been stifled a great deal due to the censorship on the bulletin boards.

While never having met Brainiac 5 directly, he has spoken with him on the bulletin. Okita doesn't know Brainiac 5's identity, but he does know him as the person who impersonates Lelouch on the bulletin board with a very convincing copy of his handwriting for research purposes. He first suspected this forgery when Brainy ripped down and refused to draw pictures back with him on a post. Lelouch always drew cats in return to Okita's anonymous pig drawings, but Brainy grew upset and refused to participate. Finding this strange, Okita began to suspect that this person wasn't Lelouch at all. The next time, Lelouch himself appeared and revealed the impostor, but not his name. As far as Okita knows, Brainy is using Lelouch's identity to conduct research he could not do under his own for fear of being harassed. Although Aidou likely doesn't remember Okita, Okita remembers him. There is something decidedly inhuman about Aidou that sets off Okita's alarms – something about his mannerisms and his eyes speak to the darker side of Okita’s soul and he doesn’t like that. He's been wary of him ever since accidentally flicking a spork at him during a mealtime meeting and getting attacked for his mistake. The original information network creator, Mello was an antagonistic presence to the History Club and all clubs in general. Smart and difficult to pin, Mello was a cunning adversary as he tried to pull down the clubs' reputations and destroy their clout within the Institute. Okita assigned Ayumu to the case; her mission was to uncover any and all information about Mello so they could learn about him, find his weaknesses and eventually eliminate him as a threat. As Sen, she grew close to Robin (aka Mello's friend, Matt) who was a double agent for Mello within the History Club. They were just gaining ground on him when Mello mysteriously vanished. His antagonistic group dispersed with him and his threat was neutralized.

Mello has since returned to the Institute, but now he seems more willing to work with the clubs. Still, he is a possible threat and Okita is wary of him and his intentions. Thus, Okita will be keeping an eye on any and all of Mello's activities to ensure he does not try to seize control again. So far, his movements seem restrained to the bulletin - although Okita has only seen a few examples of his handiwork when he hasn't bothered to disguise his writing. His aliases are difficult to track, however, making information gathering on him a tedious affair.

Another of Mello's antagonistic group, Renamon once got Okita to lose his cool on the bulletin board. She initially looked to gain membership with a club, but later turned against them and vocally scrutinized their efforts. Feeling that her actions threatened their ability to recruit new blood at a crucial point in the club's formation (as well as seeing her connection to Mello and, therefore, marking her immediately as the enemy), Okita unwisely lashed out at her. He regrets his actions and at one point kept an eye out for Renamon since just to ensure that she doesn't try her antagonistic stunts again. So far it seems that her desire to undermine the clubs vanished along with Mello's disappearance, making Okita wonder if her distaste for the clubs was her own or if she'd merely been influenced by Mello. It seems that Renamon has suffered many losses since she first tried to undermine the clubs, and so Okita marks her as a neutralized threat.

The first time they met was the night Homura injected himself with the black drug, causing him to get brainwashed into helping the Institute. Homura ended up stabbing Okita to a wall with his own sword and Yomi was an unnoticed observer. Thus, their first meeting went unknown to Okita who was a bit preoccupied at the time to say the least. The next day at breakfast, she approached Okita to ask him where he'd gotten his sword. She was extremely interested in gaining a weapon, but since Okita was already reeling from the effects of the previous night, he was less than friendly toward the woman. He hated that someone had witnessed his defeat and then taken that as an opportunity to ask about gaining a sword for themselves. Luckily, Jaime Reyes came and interrupted their conversation, saving Okita from having to answer any further questions.

Now, Yomi has joined the History Club under the alias Hayashi, which makes Okita all the more uneasy around the woman. He doesn’t know why, but there is something – much like with Aidou – that sets him off about her. He thinks it is because she is a constant reminder of his failure to stop Homura from being brainwashed, but he isn’t sure. He's an older gentleman, far older than Okita thinks is safe for him to be running around, but someone who Okita sees as still very immature. Porky met Okita in Doyleton and didn't leave a very favorable impression on the swordsman. He has a very dark outlook that tends to blame others for his misfortune, which leads to nasty remarks about others and several behaviors that Okita finds distasteful. Okita remembers him thanks to the incident where Lelouch was forced to reveal his power because Porky was apparently trying to blackmail Lelouch. Due to this, Okita's general impression of Porky Minch is that he's dangerous because he's manipulative and won't hesitate to stoop to new lows in order to take his enemies down. He once tried to recruit people into a club based upon promoting his own agenda, but it didn't go well because no one wanted to be a 'minion' here. Sai is a ninja, but not the same type as Okita is used to. He uses jutsu like magic and is quite a bit stronger and faster than normal people. He is also a boy trying very hard to learn how to wield his emotions; something Okita feels particularly empathetic about. He's only met Sai a few times, but he has realized that for all the things Sai has done, he is still a very pure person - and very uncertain. Deep down, he's just trying to learn how to be a human being again after having that stripped from him for training purposes. Okita knows exactly how that feels and so has given the ninja advice when he needed it, making sure to be the listening ear whenever possible. He has a drawing Sai made on the bus to Doyleton tucked away in his journal, and admires the boy's skill a great deal. He draws from the imagination, which is something Okita doesn't often see - and the creatures he comes up with are beautiful, at least in Okita's eyes.

Awhile back, Sai came to Okita with a new problem - that of his deceased (from illness) teammate having come back to life as a visitor. Okita knows the pain the visitors cause and wanted to help Sai learn to deal with this. His methods were a little harsh, forcing Sai to make a choice and to face the ugly truth of the Institute, but he had good intentions underneath it all. After that, they lost contact for a bit, only to have their reunion destroy their relationship.

Sai killed Ayumu during NS48 while under a mysterious influence. He broke her neck as she tried to protect Heiji and when Okita found out, he felt betrayed and felt the intense desire for revenge well up and blot out his former friendship with Sai. While he knows Sai didn't kill Ayumu on purpose, his grief at losing her twice - his only family here at the Institute - he can't see reason and attacked him on NS49 in an attempt to exact revenge.
Name: Sai
Real Name: (?)
Room Number: (?)
Relationship: Former Friend, Enemy
The former Hitokiri Battousai turned repentant rurouni has a tenuous and odd relationship with Okita. They are allies under the History Club, but the first time they met, Okita attempted to stab him in the face with a spork after the rurouni unwisely revealed his identity. Despite this, Kenshin has been kind enough to tell Okita that his friend will all die, leaving their cause in shambles which has only served to incur more of Okita’s hatred. Kenshin embodies the failure of the Shinsengumi to Okita and he hates what he symbolizes with an undying passion. At the same time, he recognizes (begrudgingly) that the war is over for Kenshin and that he should let it go. He has a peace treaty with him at the moment thanks to Hijikata (the first incarnation, as a way of ensuring weapons got into Shinsengumi hands), but that only holds so long as Kenshin doesn't provoke any sort of battle. So far it’s usually been Okita who had done all of the provocation, however, which does weigh a bit on Okita’s conscious.

Worse still, Okita feels that he and Kenshin are a lot alike in many ways and that bothers him to no end. They are from the same era, men of a dying age, and they have both suffered unimaginable losses to the Institute. Kenshin’s vow to never kill again is admirable, if foolish, but Okita sees the hope for the future in him, as much as he hates to admit it.

Yet, given the chance, Okita will take any and all opportunities to kill the man. It is a matter of duty, after all.
Name: Himura Kenshin
Real Name: Aoyagi Weston
Room Number: (?)
Relationship: Enemy, Grudging Ally
The first time Okita ever saw Guy severely hurt, it was when an unknown person ambushed him and Claude, breaking Guy's arm. Okita wanted revenge for someone hurting his roommate, but Guy refused to give a name. He merely said it was someone from his world and that he would deal with it. Out of respect, Okita eventually gave up trying to uncover the attacker's identity.

However, Guy was then killed in a trap and Claude gave Okita a name and a description to go off: Sync, young, green haired and deadly. He learned that Sync tortured Guy before snapping his neck and although Okita has never met Sync, he won't hesitate to hurt him if he gets the opportunity. Even though Guy has returned, Okita still feels a deep anger at the boy for what he did. He is unaware that Claude has already sought vengeance, but if he ever runs into Sync at night, Okita will attack him.

Name: Yamazaki Ayumu
Real Name: Nakamura Yuko
Relationship: Sister in Arms
The only other person from his world and a colleague from the Shinsengumi, Ayumu holds a special place in Okita's book. She was the cook for the Mibu ronin, their surrogate mother and the one to really hold them together. She was also a ninja, Inspector Yamazaki Susumu's older sister. In their own world, she went to finish the mission Susumu failed and met an untimely and rather brutal death for her efforts. Her death shook the Shinsengumi, but also helped bring about the arrest of Shunsuke Furudaka, a Loyalist sympathizer. Okita attended her funeral and led the raid that captured Furudaka, but he has never really been able to accept her death. With Ayumu being back and alive at Landel's, he wants to do everything in his power to ensure that she gets the life she deserves, while simultaneously wanting to uphold appearances as Ayumu's de facto commanding officer and hide the fact that she is dead. He trusts her with just about everything, but still refuses to tell her about his illness or her future.

Despite all his efforts, Ayumu was killed by Sai on NS48. She died defending Heiji from a possessed Sai and while Okita recognizes her sacrifice and honors her memory, her loss has hit him harder than he thought possible. He feels like his heart is breaking and he has no one who can share the pain with him.

Name: Hijikata Toshizou
Real Name: Michael Sugiyama
Relationship: Leader
His vice commander at home and still the most important person in his life, Hijikata Toshizou is the one responsible for making Okita Souji into who he is today. Okita will readily kill or die by Hijikata's command. The vice commander is the one person Okita has centered his life on and, without him, he tends to fall apart. That doesn't mean he follows blindly though and often drops hints that Hijikata needs to rest or is on the wrong path in subtle ways. Hijikata was twice at Landel's and twice he left, leaving Okita's world in shambles. The second time, however, he was graced with a visit and thus believes Hijikata is capable of being saved from the world outside. This has given Okita a purpose again, and it is one of the main reasons why he follows Homura. Still, thoughts of Hijikata and whether or not taking him away from this future where he is safe from the fate awaiting him in Ezo plague Okita when he is alone and given time to think about it. He worries constantly for the vice commander and he hopes that he has the strength to make the right decision in the end.

Name: Arlene
Real Name: The Bride
Relationship: Associate
She introduced herself as Arlene and while Okita was never able to learn very much about her, she did tell him that she was searching for daughter. He'd seen her early messages on the board, usually to the tune of her looking out for or asking after someone (usually young females) and so he knows that she tends to watch out for the young girls at the Institute. He figures the reason is because she's a mother and because she's taking care of surrogate daughters this way. Since Okita himself is fond of children, he promised to keep an eye out for Arlene's daughter B.B. and to report anything he hears to her. He doesn't know about who she really is, but he suspects there is more than meets the eye to her - what with her hands and stature being that of a fighter.

She disappeared recently, although Okita had stopped keeping up with her by that time.

Name: Loz
Real Name: (?)
Relationship: Person of Interest
Although they never met, Okita recognized the name "Yazoo" on the bulletin from his knowledge of Kadaj and thus anonymously met his other brother, Loz. Okita never knew what Loz looked like, although he guessed he resembled his brother Kadaj to some extent. After discussing weapons and where to obtain them, Okita gave Loz a fake name, Kane, in order to contact him despite knowing that his actions would likely damage his relationship with Yuffie, who had an open dislike for the brothers. Okita has always had a soft spot for Kadaj and his brothers due to their strangely innocent ruthlessness. He always found himself inexplicably drawn to helping them, even though he knew it was a bad idea.

Unfortunately, Loz and Kadaj both disappeared before Okita ever had a chance to reunite with them.

Name: Hijikata Toshirou
Real Name: (?)
Relationship: Complicated
Hijikata Toshirou was the Alternate Universe version of Hijikata Toshizou, and as such, he was the highest ranking Shinsengumi officer in Landel's. Unfortunately, being AU, he wanted nothing to do with Okita or his 'angst' version of events. They had a common enemy in Takasugi Shinsuke and Martin Landel, but they never quite came to terms with each other. Okita was uncertain how Hijikata's appearance disrupted his alliance with Homura, but eventually decided to stay with his current commander.

Okita and Hijikata had an argument over the board because Okita could not control his animosity toward Takasugi. Thankfully, that argument was done anonymously and Hijikata never learned what Okita looked like. Thanks to that he later met Hijikata in the showers and they had a pleasant conversation up until Hijikata realized who he was. Okita learned that Hijikata wasn't so different from his commander as he thought and Hijikata learned to somewhat tolerate Okita's obsessive behaviors (due to having been left behind twice). While it seemed that Hijikata didn't hate Okita's presence, they remained wary of each other until the day when Hijikata disappeared yet again.

Name: Kadaj
Real Name: (?)
Relationship: Person of Interest
Kadaj was an interesting case in that Okita never told him his real name, and yet he still felt close to him. Not close enough to call him a friend, but close enough that Okita kept an eye on him. They often exchanged haiku on the board (although Okita never realized it was Kadaj who did that) and met in town once when Okita was fleeing the scene of a fight with Kenshin. Okita knew that Kadaj was dangerous, but the boy didn't begrudge him his own bloodthirsty side and actually preferred it to Okita's happy-go-lucky self. The fact that he could drop all pretenses around him was both reassuring and scary at the same time. Now that Kadaj is gone, Okita misses him, but hopes he was reunited with his family.

Recently Kadaj returned, but seemed to have no memories of their prior meeting. Okita was uncertain how to progress after seeing him attack Yuffie, but soon after, the boy disappeared again, saving Okita from having to deal with that question.

Name: Adelheid "Adel" Bernstein
Real Name: (?)
Relationship: Weaver
Okita couldn't help but tease his "Weaver" about his
awkwardness. When they first met, Adel wasn't sure whether Okita was male or female and Okita used that to his advantage to play with the younger man. He respected Adel for his alchemical skills, but he wished he'd open up a little more in the emotional department. For awhile, he hadn't seen Adel and because of that worried about the man's allegiance to their group. Since he was their only route to weaponry, Okita found him absolutely invaluable to the continuation of the group. Okita was more than happy to do what he could in order to keep Adel around, but the boy unfortunately vanished one night, taking with him the History Club's access to easy weapons.

Okita wonders what happened to the boy and whether or not he is well, what kind of life he lived and where he would have gone once released from the Institute.

Name: Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin
Real Name: (?) (?)
Relationship: Informants
Although he had a hard time telling Hikaru and Kaoru apart by appearance, he could easily separate them by personality. Hikaru was eager and willing to tell him about the past, whereas Kaoru was more reluctant to believe that he really was Okita Souji. Hikaru was able to impart a bit of information to Okita the few times they met, but Kaoru often remained suspicious and often teased Okita about being crazy. The two boys disappeared sometime over the course of Okita's stay, and while he doesn't know when, he hopes they went home safely instead of becoming prey to the Institute's monsters.

Name: Jaime Reyes
Real Name: (?)
Relationship: Acquaintance
Jaime seemed like a good boy, with his questions and his willingness to listen. However, after Jaime accidentally used Scarab's scanning ability and realized that Okita had tuberculosis, Jaime became someone to be avoided. Okita didn't like knowing that someone was able to see the disease so easily in him, and it made Okita a little paranoid about the healers and the way they were able to cure injuries and other things. His paranoia was eventually found to be useless. Despite Okita's wariness around Jaime, his skill was undeniable and at one point, Okita considered inviting him to the History Club. This desire strengthened after Jaime saved Okita from an uncomfortable discussion with Yomi, but unfortunate he, too, succumbed to the Institute and disappeared after this final encounter.

Name: Takasugi Shinsuke
Real Name: (?)
Relationship: Enemy
As the leader of the Kiheitai, Takasugi Shinsaku was the most dangerous man in the rebel camp. His alternate universe counterpart, Takasugi Shinsuke, was no different - although he was significantly more unhinged. As someone who came from a world that Okita didn't understand, he had a slight advantage in that Okita wouldn't kill him on sight, but he was still dangerous and because of that was being kept under close watch. Homura's decision to allow Takasugi to join the History Club drove a wedge between Okita and his leader temporarily. Okita had hoped that Takasugi would show his true colors Okita could take him out or capture him to bring him to Hijikata Toshirou in an attempt to get in the other man's good graces, but Takasugi was too careful and escaped such a fate. Instead, it turned out he killed Genjyo Sanzo - Homura's acquaintance and rival from his homeworld - and then vanished into the ether.
